What is a Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS)?

Lincoln Medical Supply is a company that provides rehabilitation type medical products. Some of these products are also called adaptive equipment. These terms cover a wide variety of equipment but refer to medical equipment that is custom fitted, designed, modified and / or adapted to meet the specific needs of the client using it. Frequently, the term is used to describe custom fitted mobility equipment such as manual or power wheelchairs.

The process of ‘fitting’ a client for a wheelchair involves a ‘team approach’ including the client, clinician, family members and caregivers. Each party brings a different perspective of needs and outcomes and contributes to the ‘total picture’ of the client.

A ‘home evaluation is performed as is a ‘work environment’ evaluation to assess the ‘activity of daily living’ needs of the client. Many factors are considered in the determination of which equipment and options might best serve the client’s needs. Some of these considerations include table or desk height, doorway widths, floor surfaces, thresholds and transfer surfaces (bed to chair transfers, etc.). Controllers on power equipment may be adapted for limited hand motion, tremors or delayed reaction time. Seating components such as seat or back cushions are customized to prevent skin breakdown or help position a client. The list of factors goes on and on. The goal is to allow the client to be independent, improve comfort, mobility and health while maintaining safety.
